The Patriots signed LB Jeff Tarpinian to the 53-man roster from the practice squad and released LB A.J. Edds, the team announced.
Tarpinian, an undrafted rookie out of Iowa, was released just before the team's first game and signed to the practice squad on Sept. 14.
Edds, a fourth-round pick by the Dolphins in 2010, missed his entire rookie season with a knee injury. In Week Two, he recorded one tackle against the Chargers.
The Pats signed rookie CB Josh Victorian to the practice squad.
The way we see it
The Patriots clearly like Tarpinian, keeping him despite the fact that he battled injuries throughout training camp. Edds' niche is covering tight ends and backs, and could have helped against a Bills offense that sends C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson out as receivers, but the Patriots must not have been satisfied with Edds' play, feeling Tarpinian is a better option at linebacker.
