Moving Woodson to safety looks like a reach for Packers

It didn't take long before Charles Woodson was being mentioned as a possible alternative at free safety in place of Nick Collins, who is out for the year after suffering a costly neck injury in Week Two. But we hear the Packers are more likely counting on Charlie Peprah to fill in for Collins as well as he did last season for SS Morgan Burnett, who suffered a torn ACL in Week Four. The Woodson-to-safety scenario is intriguing, as it would enable Woodson, Tramon Williams and Sam Shields to all be on the field together in the base defense. But with Woodson as the nickel safety, either Jarrett Bush, who has had his share of breakdowns, or perhaps rookie Davon House would have to be the third corner — a scenario we hear the Packers would rather avoid. One more point worth making: The loss of Collins has overshadowed a decline in Shields' play that team insiders were having a hard time explaining.
