49ers WR Braylon Edwards has undergone surgery on his right knee and will be "out for a little bit" according to head coach Jim Harbaugh. Harbaugh did not give any specifics on the procedure or a timetable for Edwards' return.
Edwards injured the knee in the team's Week Two game with the Cowboys. He has four receptions for 48 yards this season.
The way we see it
Edwards was a key offseason signing of the 49ers, but he now will miss an indefinite amount of time. He was expected to bring a vertical element to the passing game but Alex Smith and the 49ers' offense have been dinking and dunking in the passing game early in the season.
The loss isn't crippling, with Michael Crabtree expected to return to the starting lineup. With Vernon Davis and Josh Morgan also in the fold, the 49ers should be able to withstand Edwards' loss without too great of a drop-off.
