Respondents to a PFW web poll asking, "What was the biggest surprise of Week One?" said that Cam Newton's single-game passing yardage record for a rookie in his NFL debut stunned them the most.
Newton passed for a rookie-debut-record 422 yards in a Week One loss at Arizona, then followed that up by setting a rookie single-game record with 432 yards in a Week Two loss to the defending Super Bowl-champion Packers.
A total of 33.4 percent of respondents chose Newton's big game as their biggest surprise of Week One.
Readers also were shocked by the Steelers' seven-turnover meltdown in Baltimore in Week One. A total of 25.8 percent of respondents chose that. The Bills exploding for 41 points at Kansas City (24.7 percent of the vote) was a close third in the voting.
Also garnering votes was the Falcons coming out flat and losing at Chicago (11.5 percent) and the Colts allowing 34 first-half points to the Texans (4.6 percent).
