Panthers LB Thomas Davis will miss the remainder of the season after tearing an ACL in his knee for the third consecutive year. Davis suffered the knee injury in the second half of Carolina's Week Two loss to the Packers.
The Panthers' linebacking corps already was undermanned after having lost Pro Bowl MLB Jon Beason to a torn Achilles in Week One. Now they will be without Davis, who recorded 12 tackles this season before suffering the injury.
The Panthers claimed LB Jason Phillips. Phillips played in nine games for the Ravens last season and made five tackles.
The way we see it
Omar Gaither stepped in for Davis when he suffered the injury Sunday and could move into the starting lineup. Other options include Jordan Senn and Jason Williams, but the drop-off from Davis to any of those players will be significant. Davis' injury hurts the Panthers' defense vs. the run and the pass, and it takes another leader off the field.
