The Broncos passing game, which was already without WR Brandon Lloyd because of injury, will be missing two other pass catchers in the coming weeks.
WR Eddie Royal will be out a few weeks because of a strained groin, The Denver Post reported. He suffered the injury in the Week Two win over the Bengals. Royal had to be helped off the field after sustaining the injury in the second quarter. His departure and Lloyd's absence left the Broncos with just two healthy wideouts — Eric Decker and Matthew Willis. The team has two receivers on the practice squad, and it's likely one of them will be signed to the active roster.
Rookie TE Julius Thomas also will miss some time after sustaining a high ankle sprain. He was replaced in the lineup for a limited time by third-string QB Tim Tebow.
The way we see it
Decker had a big day vs. the Bengals and Lloyd is expected to return soon, so the Broncos' passing game should be in decent shape. Still, losing two receivers to an already thin unit could take its toll at some point.
