Talk about being backed into a corner. When the smoke cleared from a lackluster season-opening loss to the Eagles overflowing with injuries to key players, it appeared the Rams' crippled CB corps had taken the most serious hit. In addition to losing the underrated Ron Bartell, their top corner, for the season with a pair of neck fractures, No. 2 CB Bradley Fletcher limped out of the game with a sprained toe that we hear could nag him for a while. Enter greater roles for veteran ex-Packer Al Harris and fourth-year pro Justin King, both of whom have had their share of injury problems. "They were thin at cornerback to begin with," said one team insider. "Bartell is the prototypical Steve Spagnuolo corner. Opponents' completion percentage against him was very low. King had a couple of tough plays in the opener and has trouble staying on the field. Same for Harris. I can't see him having to take 60-70 snaps a game."
