LB Thomas Davis turned a few heads around the league this week. He said the Panthers "should come away with a victory" against the heavily favored Packers Sunday. His words may have earned him some time in the spotlight in Carolina and beyond, but we hear it has been Davis' hard work — he has returned from two surgeries to repair ACL tears in his right knee — that has made him one of the more respected players inside the organization. Carolina's season opener was the first game Davis had played in since 2009. He tore his ACL in the Panthers' seventh game that season and re-tore it in June 2010, but GM Marty Hurney signed him this July to a new deal that included a $7 million signing bonus. It was a show of great faith from Hurney, and the Panthers are counting on Davis even more now that a leader and one of their better players, MLB Jon Beason, is out for the season.
