The Patriots brought OL Thomas Welch back to the practice squad on Thursday and released Nick McDonald.
Welch was signed to the 53-man roster before the season opener on Monday night. He was the Pats' seventh-round pick in 2010 and spent most of last season with the Vikings' practice squad.
McDonald was on the Packers' practice squad last season.
