The Patriots announced Wednesday that they have signed OL Donald Thomas to the 53-man roster.

To make room for Thomas, the team released OL Thomas Welch.

The team also tweaked its practice squad, signing TE Garrett Mills and LB Jeff Tarpinian and releasing LB Aaron Lavarias.

Thomas originally entered the NFL with the Dolphins in 2008 as a sixth-round draft pick. He was cut by the Dolphins prior to the 2010 season, and signed on with the Lions in November of last season. He was inactive for the final six games of last season, and was released by Detroit on Sept. 3 of this year.
