The absence of DE Mike Neal and CB Tramon Williams from the Packers' Wednesday practice was the most noteworthy news on the team's injury report in advance of its game in Carolina this Sunday.

Neal, who was a late-week scratch in Week One, will miss a "significant" amount of time after having surgery on his knee this week, according to head coach Mike McCarthy, who added that Neal won't be placed on injured reserve for now.

Williams is still feeling the effects of a shoulder injury suffered in the Week One win over the Saints. Also listed as "out" on the injury report was LB Frank Zombo (shoulder), who is still considered at least a few weeks away from returning to action.

The following Packers participated in the practice on a limited basis: OT Chad Clifton (knee), TE Jermichael Finley (ankle), CB Davon House (ankle) and LB Vic So'oto (back). TE Ryan Taylor (hip) was also listed on the report despite participating fully in the practice.

The way we see it

Neal continues to have problems staying healthy, and his absence hurts the team's depth at the position. Fortunately for the Packers, Jarius Wynn did a nice job replacing him in the starting lineup in Week One. Williams did not have one of his better games in the season opener, and his bum shoulder might have been partially responsible. It's too early to rule him out for this Sunday.
