The Vikings have eight rookies on their roster. Only a few even played in the opener. Five were inactive: CB Brandon Burton, S Mistral Raymond, C Brandon Fusco, OT DeMarcus Love and DE DeAundre Reed.

DT Christian Ballard clocked Chargers QB Philip Rivers once, rotating in at defensive tackle for a few dozen plays. Ballard mostly was on the field in the nickel package, doing fine in his first game, but he failed to register a tackle.

TE Kyle Rudolph started in the two-TE set that was a prevalent package all day, but he was mostly invisible. Donovan McNabb targeted him once, but the two didn't hook up for a reception. The pass looked like a throwaway at the end of the second quarter. Rudolph continues to work on his blocking, and his snaps will be limited until he shows more progress there.

QB Christian Ponder was the backup. He was active but did not see the field.
