Texans WR Kevin Walter has a badly bruised collarbone, not the fractured collarbone that had been initially reported Monday.

"He does not have a fracture," Houston head coach Gary Kubiak said Monday. "That's great news. It's being treated as a bad bruise. He's probably going to miss a few days, and we'll see where he is (Wednesday) and at the end of the week."

Kubiak wouldn't rule out Walter for Sunday's game at Miami, although it's more likely that he'll sit out a game or two. If he can't play Sunday, Jacoby Jones would start in his place, and Bryant Johnson would become the No. 3 receiver. Jones had three catches for 43 yards in Week One.

Walter had one catch for 14 yards before leaving the game. The ninth-year veteran started all 16 games last season and had 51 catches for 621 yards and five scores.

Texans RB Derrick Ward also left the game with an ankle injury. He said he will be ready for Week Two against Miami. Ward had 11 carries for 39 yards and a touchdown after getting the start with Arian Foster on the bench with a hamstring injury.

The way we see it

This prognosis gives the Texans a big lift after their impressive Week One victory over the Colts. Despite having one of the best wideouts in the game in Andre Johnson, the Texans don't have much behind him. Jacoby Jones will be counted on to step up, as well as Bryant Johnson, if Walter has to sit out a game or two.
