Falcons DT Jonathan Babineaux will miss 3-5 weeks with a partially torn medial collateral ligament in his knee, his agent, Jack Bechta, confirmed to PFW correspondent and Atlanta Journal-Constitution writer D. Orlando Ledbetter.
Babineaux had a knee and shoulder injury on the injury report heading into the team's season opener against the Bears. He had one tackle in the game but left at one point to get his ankle checked.
"The MCL, all the guys that I've ever had have come back. If there is any issue with uncomfortableness, they go in and get it cleaned up after the season," Bechta said.
Babineaux was a second-round pick in 2005. He recorded 27 tackles and four sacks in 15 games last season.
The Falcons were without DT Corey Peters in the opener because of a knee injury. Peters has missed four weeks of action but could return for Week Two against the Eagles.
