The Patriots ruled five players out for the Monday night opener against the Dolphins, including ORT Sebastian Vollmer.

Vollmer (back), DE Jermaine Cunningham (groin), WR Taylor Price (hamstring), OL Ryan Wendell (calf) and LB Jeff Tarpinian (knee) will not play in Week One.

Vollmer didn't practice all week. All players ruled out were listed as questionable on the team's Saturday injury report.

Rookie OT Nate Solder is expected to start for Vollmer.

The way we see it

Missing Vollmer is huge, as Solder will have to face OLBs Cameron Wake and Jason Taylor in his first ever NFL game. With Price out, Matthew Slater is the team's fifth receiver. The Pats are thin on the interior O-line, and Wendell is the top reserve, making the Brian Waters signing important. Without Cunningham, Andre Carter and Shaun Ellis will likely start at defensive end.
