The Lions will lighten DE Kyle Vanden Bosch's practice workload this season with the hope of ensuring one of the NFL's high-motor players will be as strong as possible on game days. Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said the team will "try and take some wear and tear off him during the week, so there's probably not many Wednesdays he's going to practice over the course of the season." Vanden Bosch, 33, had offseason neck surgery, but there's no doubting his value to the defense and in the locker room, the way we hear it. We're told Vanden Bosch has been as advertised — a hard worker and tone setter for an emerging team. Former Cardinals head coach Dave McGinnis, who coached Vanden Bosch in Arizona and Tennessee, said Vanden Bosch's work ethic was comparable only to three players he had coached — Hall of Famers Walter Payton and Mike Singletary in Chicago and the perennial Pro Bowl CB Aeneas Williams in Arizona.
