The Vikings have locked up OLB Chad Greenway with a long-term contract, the team announced after practice Monday.
The club had placed the franchise tag on Greenway in February, and he would have earned $10.091 million this season under that one-year designation. However, Greenway had expressed a desire to stay with the Vikings for the long term.
Reports indicate Greenway signed a five-year contract worth $41 million, with $20 million guaranteed.
The way we see it
The Vikings are smart to lock up one of their key defensive players to a long-term deal. Although the cap number for this season wasn't immediately available, the team no doubt reduced the cap hit from what would have been a $10.091 million number.
