The Saints have extended the contract of head coach Sean Payton through 2015, the team announced Monday. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Payton's previous deal had been set to expire after the 2012 season.
Payton, who joined the club in 2006, will have coached the Saints for 10 years if he stays in New Orleans for the duration of his new contract. He joined the team after an '05 season in which it went 3-13 and had its season disrupted by Hurricane Katrina.
Payton has a 53-33 record in his first five seasons in the Big Easy, guiding the team to the postseason three times and winning a Super Bowl in the 2009 season with a 31-17 victory over Indianapolis.
