Faced with a thin RB corps entering the season, the Cardinals signed recently released veteran RB Chester Taylor to a one-year contract on Sunday, according to a league source, said

Chicago released Taylor in its final cutdown Saturday after he had spent one season with the team in a backup role to Matt Forté.

Following the trade of Tim Hightower to Washington and the loss of rookie Ryan Williams to a torn patellar tendon in his right knee, the Cardinals had faced the prospect of having third-year player LaRod Stephens-Howling and second-year man Alfonso Smith as the backups to starter Beanie Wells.

Taylor, who'll turn 32 this month, had little success with the Bears last season, rushing for 267 yards and three touchdowns with a 2.4-yard average per carry.
