A talk-radio station in Indianapolis is reporting that Peyton Manning will need a second procedure on his neck and will be out indefinitely, but Colts GM Bill Polian says he knows nothing about it.

A Twitter update from 1070-AM The Fan in Indianapolis said, "Been told by multi sources that QB P Manning needs a 2nd neck procedure. Will remain out indefinitely."

When contacted by Sports Illustrated, Polian said, "I don't know anything about that. I honestly don't."

Colts owner Jim Irsay tweeted the following on Sunday night: "There is nothing2say on Peyton's status except we move cautiously n deliberately on projecting, beyond day2day, his healing process n recovery."

Sources told NFL Network that the Colts are attempting to discover why Manning's recovery is progressing more slowly than anticipated, but they wouldn't say whether the veteran quarterback would be ready to play in Week One or not.

Manning underwent a procedure in May to repair a nerve in his neck, and he was activated last week from the physically-unable-to-perform list. However, the Colts signed 17-year veteran QB Kerry Collins on Aug. 24 to become the backup, ahead of Curtis Painter, in case Manning is unable to play in the season opener Sept. 11 at Houston.
