One day after it appeared he had made the Jets' 53-man roster, Aaron Maybin was waived on Sunday.

The Jets claimed four players off waivers Sunday, necessitating the further trimming of their roster. The team claimed former Dolphins QB Kevin O'Connell, ex-Rams WR Mardy Gilyard, former Chargers C Colin Baxter and ex-Cowboys S Andrew Sendejo. O'Connell takes the roster spot of rookie QB Greg McElroy, who was placed on injured reserve with a dislocated right thumb that he suffered in the final preseason game.

To make room for the waiver claims, the Jets also released DT Martin Tevaseu and DB Isaiah Trufant, in addition to Maybin.

Maybin, the 11th overall pick in the 2009 draft had managed no sacks and only 22 tackles in two disappointing seasons in Buffalo before the Bills waived him Aug. 15.

The Jets also signed seven players to their practice squad: TE Josh Baker, LB Matthias Berning,  DT Jarron  Gilbert, CB Julian Posey, WR Patrick Turner and OGs Trevor Canfield and Matt Kroul.
