The Steelers placed QB Byron Leftwich on injured reserve on Friday, in addition to cutting 21 players.
The team released LB Baraka Atkins, LB Mario Harvey, LB Chris McCoy, LB Mortty Ivy, DL Corbin Bryant, DB Brett Greenwood, DB Macho Harris, DB Donovan Warren, DB Da'Mon Cromartie-Smith, RB James Johnson, RB John Clay, OL Colin Miller, OL Kyle Jolly, OL John Malecki, OL Trevis Turner, OL Keith Williams, WR Armand Robinson, WR Wes Lyons, WR Tyler Grisham, TE Jamie McCoy and PK Swayze Waters.
Leftwich broke his left (non-throwing) arm in the team's third preseason game. The ninth-year veteran played in one game last season.
On Saturday, the team finalized its roster, releasing CB Crezdon Butler, OL Tony Hills, TE John Gilmore, P Jeremy Kapinos and DL Jarrett Crittenton.
Kapinos' release means that Daniel Sepulveda has won the punting job for the defending AFC champions.
