There were some minor surprises among the cuts made by the Raiders, but nothing too shocking.
DB Stevie Brown, QB Trent Edwards and a trio of cornerbacks — Walter McFadden, Lito Sheppard and Jeremy Ware — all were let go. Brown was considered a valuable backup for the team. Meanwhile, many thought that the Raiders would hold on to at least one of the three corners fighting for the final spot in the secondary. Edwards, a free-agent pickup after the lockout, was projected to be the team's No. 2 QB, but was beaten out by incumbent Kyle Boller.
Also released Saturday by the team were: WR Shaun Bodiford, TE Kevin Brock, DE Mason Brodine, DT Jamie Cumbie, LB Chris Francis, LB Bani Gbadyu, S Matt Giordano, DT Derrick Hill, DE Tommie Hill, WR Chad Jackson, LB J Leman, OG Daniel Loper, WR Eddie McGee, CB Sterling Moore, P Glenn Pakulak, OG Alex Parsons, RB Louis Rankin, FB Manase Tonga and LB Sam Williams.
The team waived/injured three players — WR Shawn Bayes, OG Roy Shuening and Ware.
And QB Terrelle Pryor was placed on the reserve/suspended list.
