The Jaguars have placed backup RB Rashad Jennings on injured reserve because of a knee injury suffered in the preseason.
"A Big Thx to all my Fans for the prays & support. They have decided to place me on IR this yr. I promise i'll return stronger." Jennings wrote Saturday on his Twitter account.
Expected to be the primary backup to starter Maurice Jones-Drew, Jennings had an impressive 2010 season, playing in 13 games, rushing for 459 yards and three TDs. He hurt his knee during the team's preseason contest with the Bills two weeks ago.
According to Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times-Union, Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio said he will give more carries to FBs Montell Owens and Brock Bolen in Jennings' place.
The way we see it
This could hurt the Jaguars' running game as Jones-Drew is returning from a bone-on-bone situation in his knee that cost him the final two games of the 2010 regular season. Jennings, who had showed flashes of being a bellcow-type back, was going to be solid insurance in case Jones-Drew needed a rest of was sidelined.
It wouldn't be a surprise if the Jags picked up a veteran back who was cut this weekend to add depth heading into the season.
