The Bengals and OT Andrew Whitworth have agreed on a new contract that will keep the starting left tackle in Cincinnati through the 2015 season.

The sixth-year lineman has made 70 starts since being taken in the second round of the '06 draft. In a press release issued by the team, Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said he is happy that the club was able to hold on to a good locker-room presence.

"Whit is a very fine player and also a team leader, so this is obviously good news for our team," Lewis said. "It's good to get this done before the regular season begins, and I credit our front office as well as his side for making it happen."

The way we see it

Whitworth emerged as one of the AFC's better left tackles in 2010 with a career-best season, one that was Pro Bowl worthy. Whitworth is a very good pass blocker. He allowed only 2½ sacks a season ago — a particularly impressive statistic, as the Bengals passed much more than they did in '09. He is also a solid run blocker.
