With starting PK Garrett Hartley injured, the Saints signed former Panthers PK John Kasay as a replacement.
Scott Fowler of the Charlotte Observer first reported the signing would occur, and the team made it official Tuesday afternoon.
Kasay, who played for Carolina from 1995 through the 2010 season, was released by the team after the lockout was resolved. He now joins an NFC South rival who could use a reliable leg, as Kasay made more than 86 percent of his field goals last season.
Hartley hurt his hip in New Orleans' preseason game last Sunday in Oakland. The team has not disclosed the severity of his injury, though this move is an indication he may not return quickly.
