The Bears released five players on Monday, trimming their roster down to 80 players.
The most notable of the cuts is DE Vernon Gholston, who was signed by the team following the lockout. A former first-round pick of the Jets, Gholston was trying to resurrect his career in Chicago after being a colossal bust during three seasons in New York. However he was unable to make a mark during four weeks with the Bears, recording just two tackles in the team's three preseason games.
Also released by the team were LB Tanner Antle, C J.C. Brignone, DT Tank Tyler and QB Trevor Vittatoe.
