The Giants and Jets both announced that because of concerns regarding Hurricane Irene, the game time for Saturday's preseason game between the two teams at MetLife Stadium has been moved to 2 p.m. ET. The game originally was scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. ET.
"We moved the start time based on the weather forecast and to give everybody an opportunity to get home safely after the game," Giants president and CEO John Mara said. "There are, obviously, many issues to consider. Our players played a game on Monday night, the stadium personnel has to secure the building postgame and, most importantly, the safety and welfare of Giants and Jets fans. We felt like this is the right thing to do."
Hurricane Irene is a Category 2 storm that could strengthen to Category 3 level by the weekend. It's path is following along the East Coast and is expected to hit Washington D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York, Boston and beyond as it blows up from its starting point in the Carribbean. New York City hasn't seen a hurricane in decades.
