The Steelers' linebacking corps is considered to be the best in the league, and the team is taking the necessary steps to keep it that way.

Just weeks after reaching a long-term deal with OLB LaMarr Woodley, Pittsburgh and ILB Lawrence Timmons agreed to a six-year, $50 million contract on Tuesday. The linebacker led the team in tackles last season with 132.

Woodley signed a six-year, $61.5 million contract on Aug. 5, keeping the two youngest Steelers 'backers on the roster for the primes of their careers. Timmons, 25, and Woodley, 26, were instrumental in Pittsburgh allowing the fewest points per game last season, enabling the team to reach Super Bowl XLV.

The way we see it

No team is better at identifying young talent and building them into key players, especially on defense, than the Steelers. With first Woodley and now Timmons locked up for the next half-decade, the team has positioned itself well to be competitive on that side of the ball for a long time.
