Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio confirmed Tuesday that David Garrard will be the team's starting quarterback in the season opener.
"David's our starter," Del Rio said, according to the Florida Times-Union.
Garrard has rookie Blaine Gabbert on his heels. Gabbert was the 10th overall pick in April's draft and started the Jaguars' preseason opener because Garrard was out with a sore back. But Del Rio put to bed any rumors of a competition to start under center on Sept. 11.
In the Jags' second preseason game against the Falcons, both quarterbacks played, but neither shined. Garrard completed 7-of-12 passes for 99 yards with an interception. Gabbert was 11-of-23 for 96 yards.
