The Steelers have re-signed OL Trai Essex, giving them more versatility and depth up front.

Essex, who had been an unrestricted free agent, has played his entire six-year career in Pittsburgh. He has played in 59 career games, starting 25 of them.

Essex has the ability to play either guard or tackle and could be insurance in case the knee injuries suffered by Jonathan Scott and Marcus Gilbert take longer than expected to heal.
