The annual preseason game between the 49ers and Raiders will be no more, a source told Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News, following a violent incident last Saturday outside Candlestick Park.
The incident, a shooting which left two people in critical condition, came following an argument between fans of both sides. According to the newspaper, both the NFL and local police strongly support the ending of the annual game between the Bay Area rivals.
There isn't expected to be an official announcement about the game's discontinuation, just that it won't appear on the schedule in coming seasons. There is a chance the two teams will scrimmage during training camp, the source reported.
