Respondents to a PFW web poll asking which of the rookie quarterbacks they were most impressed with in the first week of the preseason overwhelmingly chose Patriots No. 3 QB Ryan Mallett.

Mallett, a third-round pick by New England, completed 12-of-19 passes for 164 yards and one touchdown against the Jaguars in his first NFL action. He followed that up with a 9-of-14 passing performance for 71 yards and one interception against the Buccaneers.

Mallett was chosen by 42.6 percent of respondents. He was followed by Titans QB Jake Locker (19.5 percent), Panthers QB Cam Newton (16.0), Jaguars QB Blaine Gabbert (7.7), Vikings QB Christian Ponder (5.2), 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick (4.7) and Bengals QB Andy Dalton (4.3).
