Antwan Odom, a former defensive end for the Titans and Bengals, was shot in the leg early Monday during a robbery attempt of his home in Irvington, Ala., about 14 miles southwest of Mobile.
Odom suffered a minor flesh wound in his thigh and has been released from the hospital, according to a report from WKRG-TV in Mobile, Ala.
Local police have identified a suspect and were looking for him.
Odom, who turns 30 on Sept. 24, played seven seasons in the NFL, most recently a year ago with Cincinnati. He is currently a free agent, rehabbing from a wrist injury he suffered last season. He has 23½ sacks in 74 career games.
He has had a rough past couple years. He had tallied eight sacks in the first six games of the ’09 before suffering a torn Achilles tendon that ended his season. He returned to action in ’10 but was ineffective in four games before being suspended for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.
Then, this past March, his Cincinnati-area home was heavily damaged by a fire that occurred while he and his family were out of town.
