One of the interesting elements of the Osi Umenyiora-Giants kerfuffle is that it's not over. Even after Umenyiora wasn't traded and did report to the team. For anyone who thinks he has moved on, consider the fact that the team said Umenyiora thought he needed surgery on his injured knee — and not the other way around. The rift remains deep between the two sides, but the biggest issue right now might be something else: the condition of his knee, which might be worse than originally thought. When the surgery was first announced, it was speculated that Umenyiora might be out 2-3 weeks, but other team sources have indicated it could be as long as 4-6 weeks. That would put his availability for the opener at Washington in serious question. This story is far from over, but the good news is that Jason Pierre-Paul's seeming emergence has made it necessary for Umenyiora to play at a high level when he returns.
