Former Jets safety and special-teamer James Ihedigbo is joining the Patriots, he announced on his Twitter feed Friday afternoon.

"Thanks to #jetsfans for all the love (and) support greatly appreciate it's on to a new chapter.....I'm Officially a New England Patriot!!!!!!" he wrote.

The Jets did not re-sign Ihedigbo, an unrestricted free agent. He played in 14 games last season and recorded 22 tackles and three sacks.

The way we see it

The Patriots have been looking to add some safety depth. They lost Jarrad Page via free agency and cut Brandon McGowan. S Bret Lockett left Thursday night's game with an injury.

Ihedigbo joins former Jets teammate Shaun Ellis, who signed with New England on Aug. 7.
