Despite a glaring need at tight end that has lasted a decade in Buffalo, the Bills made no acquisitions in the draft, nor free agency, to upgrade the position.

A three-way battle is being waged for the Bills' starting TE position, and a player with one career catch appears to have the edge. Scott Chandler has played in 14 career games since 2007, including nine with the Cowboys last season before joining the Bills for the final four games of 2010. In the team's preseason opener against the Bears, Chandler got the start over David Martin and Shawn Nelson and had two catches for 13 yards.

"We wanted to get a few guys involved to see how they would do, Scott being one of those in particular, just to get him some touches early," Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick said after the game. "He did a good job today."

Chandler was a wide receiver until his sophomore year of college and has good hands and size. He doesn't have to do much to provide a boost at the position — Bills tight ends combined for 187 receiving yards last season.
