Broncos DE Ty Warren will undergo surgery to repair a partially torn right triceps, the Denver Post reported. Recovery time is 3-6 months, but there is no plan to place him on injured reserve.
Warren's surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, and doctors will know more after the procedure. He suffered the injury in training camp on Monday.
The Patriots cut Warren and the Broncos picked him up to play defensive tackle. Warren played defensive end for the Pats since 2004, but missed all of 2010 with a hip injury.
Warren was expected to start next to Marcus Thomas, who also suffered an injury on Monday and is expected to miss the rest of preseason.
The way we see it
Warren was signed to help give the Broncos a much-needed upgrade on the D-line, and this is a blow to what was supposed to be a revamped front. The team acquired Brodrick Bunkley in a trade, who could be thrust into a starting role along with Kevin Vickerson.
The Broncos finished last in the league in defense last season and 31st against the run.
