Fans will have to wait to see Plaxico Burress' return to the gridiron, as an ankle injury will keep him out of the Jets' preseason opener.
Burress had an MRI on Friday and said the result was, "just a classic tweak, a classic sprain. Nothing serious."
Head coach Rex Ryan told Burress he wouldn't play Monday night against the Texans. Burress was asked if he lobbied Ryan to play.
"Oh, without question, because I was expecting to play on Monday until this morning, until he told me he wasn't," Burress responded. "I was anxious to get out there with my guys and get my feet wet and get into some action."
Ryan said he wants Burress to be at 100 percent before he plays.
The former Giants receiver hasn't played an NFL game since 2008 after spending 22 months in prison.
