Panthers starting WR David Gettis suffered a left knee injury in Wednesday night's practice and was carted off the field.

"He tweaked it and they're going to check it out," said head coach Ron Rivera, according to Steve Reed of Carolina Growl. "That's all I really know. I went over and talked to him and he said, 'It buckled on me a little bit, coach.' (The trainers) iced him down and said they would check him out after practice."

Gettis had an impressive rookie season in 2010. He played in 15 games with 13 starts and caught 37 passes for 508 yards and three touchdowns. Against the 49ers in Week Seven, Gettis had 8-125-2 receiving.

The way we see it

The Panthers could use Gettis, as their WR corps is one of the weaker units on the team. Outside veteran Steve Smith, there is second-year WR Brandon LaFell and former Chargers WR Legedu Naanee. The more weapons the team has available will help whomever starts at quarterback, Cam Newton or Jimmy Clausen.
