A day after they lost their backup running back to a season-ending injury, the Lions added two players to the depth chart at the position, signing veteran RBs Mike Bell and Jerome Harrison on Tuesday.
The team released FB Preston Dial and waived/injured CB Maurice Leggett.
Detroit's second-round pick, RB Mikel LeShoure, tore his Achilles on Monday and will miss the entire season. The physical LeShoure was scheduled to back up starter Jahvid Best, who is more of a speed back.
Bell and Harrison have an interesting connection, as they were traded for one another last season. Bell began 2010 with the Eagles before being dealt to Cleveland for Harrison. In total, Bell ran for 99 yards in 16 games last season. Harrison finished the season with 330 rushing yards in 12 games.
