The Jaguars brought back veteran QB Todd Bouman on Tuesday, and head coach Jack Del Rio said rookie Blaine Gabbert will start in the team's first preseason game.
Bouman, 39, started one game for the Jags last season, completing 18-of-34 passes for 222 yards, two touchdowns and two picks.
By signing Bouman, the team gets another quarterback they can turn to in the preseason, as David Garrard aggravated a back injury and will not attend Thursday's game against the Patriots.
Gabbert was the 10th overall pick of April's draft out of Missouri.
The way we see it
Gabbert will likely spend most of his rookie season watching Garrard from the sideline, which makes Thursday night a treat for Jaguars fans to see how Gabbert, the future of the franchise, fairs with the first team against a first-team defense.
