According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, FS Dashon Goldson has decided to return to the 49ers after spending Sunday meeting with the Patriots in New England. The unrestricted free agent reportedly agreed to a one-year, $2 million deal.
Goldson, a four-year NFL veteran, has started all 32 games the past two seasons for the 49ers. He had 80 tackles, one sack and one interception last season.
The way we see it
Daily team observers had thought Goldson was a lock to become the Niners' fifth defensive starter to leave the team, so his decision to re-sign comes as a pleasant surprise. Look for him to probably retain his starting job at free safety, with newly acquired Madieu Williams becoming a backup.
