The Titans' plan to shore up their revamped defensive front under new coordinator Jerry Gray will not include veteran DT Tony Brown, who was released by the club July 29 after failing a physical. The move was not a big surprise, as Brown has a chronic right knee issue that limited him to 11 games last season. In addition to a trio of rookie defensive tackles, bulked-up veteran Jovan Haye, 2009 second-rounder Sen'Derrick Marks and free-agent acquisition DL Shaun Smith will be in the mix to replace Brown. The 6-2, 325-pound Smith played end in Kansas City's odd front last season, but likely will contribute as a two-down, run-stuffing nose tackle for the Titans. Word is Smith brings a nasty reputation to Nashville, as he punched out Broncos QB Brady Quinn when the two were teammates in Cleveland and drew two personal-foul penalties last season for hitting his opponents below the belt.
