PFW Panthers correspondent Darin Gantt reports that recent free-agent signee DT Ron Edwards has suffered a torn triceps, an injury that likely will sideline him for a year.
Edwards, a 10-year NFL veteran, signed a three-year, $8.25 million deal with the Panthers, with the expectation that he would help shore up a run defense that ranked 23rd in the league last season.
He was a starter in four of his five seasons in Kansas City, including 2010, when he started 15 games, made 26 tackles and added two sacks.
No other defensive tackle on the team has more than two years of NFL experience. Third-round rookie Sione Fua, of Stanford, and second-year pro Corvey Irvin might be next in line for the starting job.
Also at practice Friday, the Panthers' sixth-round pick, OL Zack Williams, suffered a torn ACL, ending his season.
