It would appear the most popular free-agent move by the Rams was the signing of ex-Falcon Harvey Dahl, who provides a big upgrade at right guard. "That's a huge pickup," said one team insider of Dahl, who had become a fixture at right guard for Atlanta (43 starts in the past three years). "I thought he was one of the top three guards in free agency." A quality run blocker with good size and strength who can get down the field, Dahl's trademark is his natural nasty streak that has tended to rub some opponents the wrong way. "That line needs some attitude," the insider said. "Maybe that nasty streak of his could rub off on (starting ORT) Jason Smith, who up to now hasn't really shown the nastiness he was supposed to have." Dahl feels indebted to Rams GM Billy Devaney, who was in Atlanta when the Falcons signed him. "The reason I had success in Atlanta was because of him," said Dahl. "So I kind of wanted to stick with him."
