Competition at cornerback fierce in Houston

The signing of CB Johnathan Joseph, paired with the drafting of CBs Brandon Harris and Roc Carmichael, means the competition for playing time at the cornerback position will be fierce. 2010 first-rounder Kareem Jackson and '09 sixth-rounder Brice McCain are virtual locks to make the roster. That leaves a crowded bunch, including veterans Jason Allen, Antwuan Molden and Sherrick McManis, competing for perhaps only one open roster spot. One guy facing an uphill battle is Molden, a third-rounder in '09 who has been a major disappointment in his first two seasons. We are also hearing that the incumbent starter, Jackson, will have to earn his starting job back this season. The club was encouraged that Jackson never lost confidence despite a lackluster rookie season, but it wouldn't be a shocker if the undersized but versatile rookie Harris emerged as a starter opposite Joseph.
