Raiders RB Darren McFadden will be sidelined for the next couple of weeks after breaking an orbital bone in his face, the team announced Thursday.

The injury took place during practice on Wednesday during a drill where the running back delivered a hard block on LB Quentin Groves. Oakland head coach Hue Jackson told reporters his running back will "be fine."

The team is currently thin at running back with McFadden out. Reserves Taiwan Jones and Michael Bennett are also out with injuries, and backup Michel Bush has yet to report to camp, as he is an restricted free agent.

"I think that's going to get resolved here soon," Jackson said of Bush's contract status. "But yeah, we'd love to have him out here. He's one of the backs on this team that's played well. So we have some other guys that are battling hard, but all I can really be concerned about are the guys that are here practicing."

The way we see it

The team would be wise to be extra careful with McFadden and not risk any further injury. With Bush still unsigned and TE Zach Miller gone in free agency, the running back is the only established offensive weapon on the Raiders roster. Though the broken bone in his face won't keep him sidelined for long, it is the type of thing that could be a problem down the road if aggravated again, an issue the team cannot afford to deal with during the regular season.
