Lions DT Nick Fairley is in a walking boot after injuring his left foot in a pass-rush drill during a team practice on Monday.

Fairley, the 13th overall pick in April's draft, had X-rays during Monday's practice after limping off with a foot injury. Head coach Jim Schwartz said X-rays were negative at the time.

Schwartz would not say when Fairley is expected to return.

"Nick sort of tweaked his foot during pass-rush, or individual (drills), one of those things," Schwartz said. "They sent him in to get it X-rayed, just to make sure there was nothing, no broken bone in there, because he wanted to keep on practicing. So we sent him in, and that was negative.

"He's sore. We'll probably do a few more tests and things like that, but the X-rays were negative, so hopefully, we'll get him back soon."

The way we see it

Fairley is expected to pair with last year's NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Ndamukong Suh on an improved Lions defensive line this season.

This injury is not expected to be serious and should not prevent Fairley from playing a key role this season.
