The Bears seemed to have little use for TE Desmond Clark last season. He was a healthy scratch in 11 games in 2010 and it seemed like he was likely to part ways with the Bears, but the team announced Tuesday that they re-signed the 12-year veteran to a one-year deal.
The team also waived S K.J. Gerard Tuesday.
Offensive coordinator Mike Martz said Tuesday that it was important for the Bears to have the 34-year-old Clark back. Clark joins Matt Spaeth and Kellen Davis in a revamped TE corps. Martz said Clark will be used in an H-back role.
Clark, who joined the Bears in 2003, ranks ninth in team history with 242 receptions. He previously spent time with the Broncos and Dolphins.
